I find February can a bit of an introspective month, all the excitement of Christmas is behind us, with gloomy weather and perhaps the hints of spring’s new growth only just beginning. Are we thinking about spring cleaning? A chance to examine what we have in our lives, do those things give us joy or do we need to rehome them?
Time may be a healer but if we don’t engage with our feelings we cannot change how they influence our daily lives. Just as we go through the drawers and cupboards in our homes and examine what we may have hidden in there we too should find those vacuum packed emotions that we have held onto, open the boxes and occasionally wrap ourselves in them, acknowledge any feelings of hurt or grief that we may have been holding on to, wallow a bit, then carefully repack them until the next time, when our reaction might be different, less raw, more accepting.
We tend to acknowledge recent losses but sometimes overlook or lose track of those that are older yet no less impactful when they bubble to the surface.
Let us be mindful and spot these signs in those around us if they have a wobble, and in the spirit of love offer comfort, care and support.
FATHER GOD, we come to YOU in moments of sorrow and loss, asking for YOUR comfort, strength, and peace to fall upon all who grieve or feel alone.
We lift up all those walking with loss, asking for YOUR loving presence to surround them.
We pray for everyone feeling the weight of grief or uncertainty. Be their refuge and strength. Surround them with YOUR presence, and help them trust in YOU, knowing that YOU are always with them.
LORD, we ask for strength and reassurance in those difficult times. Remind us of YOUR promise of eternal life and fill our hearts with peace that surpasses all understanding. Let YOUR mercy fall like morning dew upon every soul, bringing healing, hope, and comfort.
In JESUS’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.
