Croeso | Welcome

Y Synod a’r Iaith Gymraeg.

Mae cenhadaeth a gweinidogaeth y rhan fwyaf o’r eglwysi hyn yn cael eu cynnal drwy’r iaith Saesneg, er bod nifer lle mae’r Gymraeg yn cael ei defnyddio fel cyfrwng. Cynhelir gwasanaethau naill ai yn bennaf drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg, neu’n ddwyieithog, yn rheolaidd yng Ngofaleth Bannau Brycheiniog, yn enwedig yn y Plough yn Aberhonddu (URC & UAC), yn URC y Fenni ac yn Sardis, Cwmcamlais (UAC).

Fel Synod rydym hefyd yn gweithio ochr yn ochr ag enwadau eraill lle mae’r Gymraeg yn iaith gyntaf neu sydd yn gwbl ddwyieithog.

Yn 2017 mabwysiadodd y Synod Polisi Iaith Gymraeg y gellir ei lawrlwytho isod.

Yn y polisi hwn, rydym yn cydnabod fod gan yr iaith Gymraeg statws swyddogol o dan Fesur y Gymraeg (Cymru) 2011, ac na ddylid ei thrin yn llai ffafriol na’r Saesneg.

  • Rydym yn credu ei bod yn arfer da i gynnig gwasanaethau yn newis iaith ein haelodau a’r sawl yr ydym yn eu gwasanaethu. Rydym hefyd yn credu ei fod yn dangos parch tuag at ein gweithlu i annog a hwyluso eu dewis iaith yn y gweithle.
  • Byddwn yn sicrhau ein bod yn gwneud cynnydd parhaol tuag at yr uchelgais hwn. Mae’r Polisi Iaith Gymraeg hwn yn datgan ein hymrwymiadau presennol wrth ddefnyddio’r Gymraeg a hefyd, lle bo’n briodol, yn gosod targedau i ddatblygu ein defnydd o’r Gymraeg.
  • Dylid dehongli hyd a lled ein hymrwymiadau yn y polisi hwn mewn ffordd resymol – maent yn gyfyngedig i weithgareddau a gwasanaethau yng Nghymru neu sydd wedi eu darparu i bobl sy’n byw yng Nghymru, a hefyd maent yn gyfyngedig i weithgareddau a gwasanaethau yr ydym yn medru eu rheoli neu ddylanwadu arnynt.

The Synod and the Welsh Language.

The National Synod of Wales is one of thirteen Synods that make up the United Reformed Church in the three nations of England, Scotland and Wales.

In Wales, the Synod is comprised of 95 local churches spread across the Principality, around half of which are in ecumenical partnerships.

The mission and ministry of the majority of these churches is carried out in the English language although there are a number where the medium of Welsh is used. Services either predominantly in Welsh, or bilingual in nature take place regularly in the Brecon Beacons Pastorate, particularly at The Plough in Brecon (URC & UWI), at Abergavenny URC and at Cwmcamlais (UWI).

As a Synod we also work alongside other denominations where Welsh is the first language spoken or which are fully bilingual. Links to some of these can be found at the bottom of this page.

In 2017 the Synod adopted a Welsh Language Policy which can be downloaded below.

In this policy we acknowledge the fact that under the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 the Welsh language has official status, and should be treated no less favourably than the English language.

  • We believe that it is good practice to provide services in the language of choice of our members and those whom we serve. We also believe that it shows respect to our workforce to encourage and facilitate the use of their chosen language in the workplace.
  • We will ensure that we make constant progress towards achieving this ambition, and this Welsh Language Policy sets out our current commitments in relation to using Welsh and also, where appropriate, sets targets to help us develop our use of Welsh.
  • The scope of our commitments in this policy should be interpreted reasonably – they are limited to activities and services in Wales or which are delivered to people living in Wales, and also limited to activities and services which we are able to control or influence.
