St. David’s Uniting Church, Pontypridd will relocate to Castle Street, Treforest in September 2024. In order to note and celebrate people and events of the past, a large congregation attended the church on Saturday, July 20th. for a service of celebration.
Past ministers attended, some taking part, together with members of the many groups who had met in the Church over the years. It was naturally a service of mixed emotions, so many activities and so many people to remember.
On entering the church, there was a welcome activity for people to show which churches they had originally come from. A slide show was also presented to illustrate our history.
The beginning of the service was divided into 5 parts which celebrated the past history of the present members and friends – English Congregational Church, Carmel Baptist Church, Pontypridd United Church, St. David’s Presbyterian Church in Wales and the present St. David’s Uniting Church.
The address was delivered by Rev. Ray Vincent and in his reflection, he reminded the congregation that the Church is far more than a building and we were also reminded of how many times we move house for a variety of reasons during our lifetime.
Move and change bring fear, challenges and excitement, but God is always with us.
After the service all were invited to stay for a very enjoyable tea when there was plenty of opportunity to reminisce and continue the celebrations.
It is with joy and excitement that as a Church family we look forward to worshipping and interacting within the community of Treforest confident that with God’s guidance, we can make a difference.
