Easter Story Trail – URC Rivertown, Shotton

It was with much excitement that we opened our doors for the school children from the local Welsh-medium primary school, Ysgol Croes Atti, to experience our ‘Easter Story Trail’.

A few weeks earlier, our minister, Revd. Johnny O’Hanlon introduced us to the Trail when we all watched a video.

The aim of the Easter Trail is to give people a deeper understanding of the Easter story through four tableaux, each with a storyteller – the Upper Room, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Cross and the Empty Tomb. We thought it was wonderful and made the decision to ‘give it a go’. We then divided into small groups, each taking a tableau. There was much banter and enjoyment as we bounced our ideas off one another before beginning the tasks of creating scenes, making costumes and learning the script.

The Trail began with an introduction which set the scene before visiting the individual ‘rooms’ which had their own story to tell, evoking emotions and creating memories.

The children were a delight and listened and engaged with the story as it was being told. The feedback from the teachers was positive and encouraging. All the children went home with an Easter activity sheet and hopefully an understanding of what Easter is really about – the extent of God’s love for a broken world.

Adults also were given an opportunity to be a part of this experience and they too appreciated it.

Our minister encouraged, inspired and enabled us throughout, and we were all very thankful for this.

Our thanks also go to the Wales Synod for a grant received from the Daphne and Bethan fund, which contributed to the production costs.

A very worthwhile event and joyous occasion, which was a privilege to be a part of. It brought the fellowship together, as well as creating an opportunity to open our doors to the community and share our faith.
