On Sunday, October 20th, Abergavenny United Reformed Church joined the second Greener Abergavenny Fair, a community-driven event celebrating environmental action and sustainable living. Held across the Market Hall, Upper Brewery Yard, and Library, the fair brought together over 70 organisations, businesses, and community groups to promote greener initiatives.
The ecumenical Eco Churches group hosted an eye-catching stall featuring a recycled dragon centrepiece, practical tips for sustainability, and ideas for engaging communities in environmental care. The display also included interactive features and inspiration for local green projects. Notable visitors included Abergavenny’s town mayor, Chris Holland, and local MP Catherine Fookes, who praised the dedication of participating churches. Angie from the Salvation Army also joined the stall, highlighting the collaborative spirit behind the event.
The fair opened with a lively procession from Bailey Park to the Market Hall, followed by a variety of hands-on activities, storytelling, workshops, films, and live music. Visitors explored a broad spectrum of green themes, including energy efficiency, biodiversity, green careers, and sustainable transport. Highlights included apple-juice pressing, retrofitting advice, and a showcase of innovative local projects like net-zero carbon school plans and green corridors through Abergavenny.
This family-friendly event shone a spotlight on the inspiring work being done in Monmouthshire and beyond, encouraging everyone to take steps—big or small—towards a more sustainable future.
