Christ Well URC (Manselton, Swansea) Playgroup 1999 to 2022
Sadly, Christ Well Playgroup closed its doors for the last time after 23 years due to our very low numbers. Whatever new direction we take, we could not close without giving our thanks and celebrating all that Christ Well Playgroup had accomplished.
On 31st July a special service was held at Christ Well URC. The congregation included current/former children and their parents plus present/past staff. Some of their lovely comments were shared in our service booklet and the last leader shared what the Playgroup had meant to her.
The celebration reminded us that Jesus repeatedly shows people that children can transform the way we are and how we think about the world. Christ Well Playgroup was borne out of the Church’s belief in the importance of the family and the huge significance everyone finds in the gifts that young children have.
Everyone appreciated such a joyful service, being able to give thanks and also to say ‘goodbye’. After the service refreshments were served which gave people the opportunity to meet up with old friends and to reminisce.
Times and needs change and we look to the future with God’s help. We are looking forward to our Children’s Club starting in September and who knows where this will lead with our work with children.
Other avenues of service to the community are opening up at Christ Well with the need for our building to be used for vulnerable people. We are delighted to welcome the MS Society for social activities. We have welcomed back Musical Memories (for dementia singing) and we are hoping our group with learning difficulties will re-start in September.
It was the end of an era for our playgroup but we look to the future with confidence.
