Who we are PDF Print

We are 1 of 13 Synods of the URC in the United Kingdom and , along with Scotland, 1 of the 2 National Synods.  We comprise 110 churches across Wales.  We are part of the branch of Christianity known as ‘reformed’ and through a series of unions over the past 35 years, the United Reformed Church has brought together English Presbyterians, English, Welsh and Scottish Congregationalists and members of the Churches of Christ.

Our churches are served by 56 ministers and each church is led by a number of ordained elders.  Over 50% of our churches are in ecumenical partnerships with the Anglican, Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian churches in Wales.

The Synod staff team are in place to serve, support and enable the local churches to engage in local mission and outreach with the gospel of God’s love in Christ as effectively as possible.  As well as our Synod Moderator – Revd Peter Noble, we have office staff plus we have an Ecumenical Officer – Revd Peter Trow, a Rural Officer – Revd Christopher Coe and a Training & Development Officer – Revd David Salsbury.

Although one of the smaller mainstream denominations in Britain, the United Reformed Church plays a dynamic and challenging part in the country’s Christian life. It seeks to work with Christians of all traditions, believing that all God’s people should be one. It is committed to theological and cultural diversity.

Worldwide, more than 70 million Christians are members of the Reformed family of churches, the largest Protestant tradition. We call ourselves Reformed because our churches began to emerge with reform movements in the sixteenth century.
