Not ashamed of the gospel PDF Print

Sermon preached by the Revd Keith Forecast in the Church in the Park, Old Colwyn, marking the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the Christian Ministry.

Readings:  Isaiah 6.1-13;  2 Timothy 1.1-14

‘I am not ashamed of the Gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith’.  Romans 1.16.

keith_forecastWhen I retired – for the first of what proved to be several times! – the Synod Office in Salford sent out an invitation to all the churches in the North Western Synod.  ‘Our moderator is retiring’ it read, ‘and a service of thanksgiving will be held in Blackburn Cathedral.’!  Well, the service was duly held, and, to judge by the number of people who came, they were pretty thankful to see me go!

That was then, ten astonishingly brief years ago.  But whatever the tone of that service, I wanted the first note to be sounded in this one to be to be indeed one of thanksgiving. For you see, from where I look there is a great deal to be thankful for.

Chaplains to offer Showground support PDF Print

showground-1For the first time, chaplains will be on hand to support showgoers at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show next week.  In a new scheme, a dedicated team of professional pastors will provide care and support on and around the showground.  They will also man a 24/7 helpline.

The new chaplaincy has been set up in response to a huge need identified on the Showground in recent years.

Chris Coe, Rural Life Officer for the United Reformed Church in Wales, is coordinating the Chaplaincy Team under the banner of the Welsh ecumenical body, CYTÛN.

“The show attracts people from the whole of Wales, and from all walks of life,” says Chris.  “With them come their needs, worries, hopes and fears. There is too, the other side – when so many people meet, there is always the possibility of death, illness, disaster and so on.

Wales Synod Ecumenical Representative reports PDF Print
Annual Meetings of the Union of Welsh Independents Trinity/St.David’s University College, Carmarthen June 8-11, 2010
The Annual Meetings of the Undeb are very much a family gathering or a meeting of the clan to celebrate their belonging and to seek mutual inspiration in the work of the member churches.  The three days spent together contain only two business sessions.  These contained the following reports and decisions.

Governing Body of the Church in Wales, Lampeter, 14-15 April, 2010
I was shown great friendliness and care by my hosts from the moment the Vicar of Sketty called for me to drive me to Lampeter.  On arrival at the town he stopped at my hotel, waited whilst I signed in and left my luggage in my room and then took me on to the university and introduced me to the Church staff.  My name label bore the words, “United Reform”: this was taken back and not only was another label produced during lunch but a staff member was waiting for me outside with a new label.  The Archdeacon of Gower informed me that he had been appointed my “minder” for the conference and ensured that I had everything that I needed.
